Karen Hill Tribe silver beads- In search of independence and prosperity, the Karen people fled the Burmese military over a century ago and settled in large refugee camps in the northwest mountains of Thailand. Traditionally farmers and very spiritually connected with the land, the Karen prefered to live close to the natural world, terracing fields for rice and raising their own pigs and chickens.
